After injuring my ankle during the 2nd preseason game with the Tennessee Titans, there was so much uncertainty concerning my career in the NFL.
Now, looking back over my time of recovery, I realize that God was simply adding to my testimony. Instead of studying plays and preparing for game day, I was allowing my physical body time to heal and preparing for the unknown.
However, during that time I experienced true contentment and learned what it means to trust in the sovereignty of God. I had the opportunity to minister to hurting youth and families's right in my home church, while serving beside my father, Dr. Tony Evans, as a pastoral and ministry assistant. Most importantly, I had the privilege of having the support and love of my wife who spoke words of encouragement to me consistently.
What more can a man ask for?
Although I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to play with the Buffalo Bills, the joy and contentment I experienced during that trying time is greater then than any other victory I can imagine.
Now, as I head back onto the field with the Buffalo Bills, it is my desire to continue to share my testimony and my faith with my teammates, coaches and fans. It's not enough to just study the plays, but we need to actually get off of the sidelines and get into the game; allowing Christ to nurture, heal and lead us into living a victorious lifestyle that does not depend on our physical situation. There is so much more waiting for us when we finally let God call the plays.
Playing for His purpose,
